In Bellevue, Washington most years we get no snow. Yet January 1, 2004 was unusually cold and the start of one week below freezing (low point: -6C)
December, 2008 another week of cold. December 18 reached -10C (14F)
January 2012 yet another week of snow and cold
February 1989 at Long Beach, Washington reached -13C overnight (9F). There was even (a tiny bit) of ice on the beach of the Pacific Ocean!
