The F20DET engine was basically a detuned race engine, a bit heavy but possibly Nissan's strongest ever engine. The stock engine can take massive boost and survive, while turning out incredible horsepower. Originally designed as the FJ24 for use in 240RS racing cars, it was in mass production as the FJ20 engine fitted to the DR30 Nissan Skyline. The FJ engine is very heavy at 366 lbs, heavier than the 318 lb Buick V8 3.5 liter engine. The FJ engine was produced in three variations: 1) FJ24E 2) FJ20E 3) FJ20ET.

The mighty FJ20E makes 148 HP from 2-liters, and with a turbo the FJ20ET makes up to 203 HP in stock form.

Although it is heavier than a GM 3800 V6, the FJ fits somewhat better into a 1200's engine bay. It looks most excellent, doesn't it?

Which is better? FJ20 or SR20?

Both:

make about the same HP in stock form (SR20DE 140-169HP, F20E 150 HP)
In turbo versions, both are too large for as 1200 (too large for normal engineering process) in most Australian states. In these States, the CA18DET is better than SR20DET or FJ20ET for street cars.

FJ20DET

In stock condition, can take more boost than SR20DET, thus more HP without opening the engine up

SR20

Much lighter, so won't be as detrimental to handling
More were produced, so prices are lower

Build-Ups

FJ20 has all the usual build-up parts, same as SR20. However as less FJs were produced, so too the market for FJ parts is more expensive than SR parts.
