The 1200s' front axle (spindle) is an integral part of the Strut assembly. The spindle, grease catcher, and knuckle arm (steering arm) complete the "Front axle".

Knuckle Arm

The "Knuckle arm" (steering arm) bolts to the balljoint, and the strut is bolted on top of the knuckle arm. Datsun knuckle arms come in two basic sizes:

  • narrow bolt spacing for 45mm strut tubes (used by B110)
  • wide bolt spacing for 50.8 mm strut tubes (used by most other Datsuns)

Additionally, the size of the taper hole for the ball joint is important.

  • B110 uses the small taper
  • Most others use a large taper

Then there is the length of the arm -- long arme give a slower steering response, but less effort is required to turn the wheels. Short arms give faster response.

The good news is there is only one size for B110. See the part numbers below.
