Australia

icon5.gif Alvin Purple (1973) movie info on IMDB

  • Comments: [B120dat:] I have seen a few 1200s, in the Alvin Purple movies. There was a real nice red 1200 coupe in it near the airport bit of the movie. Alvin goes to a skydiving place and in the carpark there is a 1200 coupe.

South Africa

stars2.gif The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980) movie info on IMDB

  • 8357.jpg (click for pic)
  • Comments: Towards beginning at 00:06:51 when showing the hectic suburban/urban life, there's a brown 1200 Coupe that pulls out in front of his neighbor, then slams the brakes on. Being it was in South Africa, it was undoubtedly a GX Coupe.

United States

stars4.gif Back to the Future (1985) movie info on IMDB

  • 8714.jpg (click for Photo Album)
  • Comments: At 06'20" as he is catching a ride behind a jeep, there is thte back a white 1200 coupe in the parking lot (bonus, a red Z-car).
  • 8715.jpg (click for Photo Album)
  • As he goes around the corner, the side of the 1200 is in the background (fuzzy). About 10 seconds, you clearly see the white Coupe behind the "Hill Valley" sign. And then another Datsun pulls up behing to top it off (it's a yellow B210 2-dr sedan, more clearly seen at 11:42 when he catches a ride behind the police car). Bonus: at 9:00 as he's walking with Jennifer there is a emerald green B210 GX Coupe in the lot with license plate "FOR MARY" and the red Z is now in the parking lot.

stars3.gif Breakin' 2 (Electric Boogaloo) movie info on IMDB

stars3.gif The Gumball Rally (1976) movie info on IMDB

  • 9954.jpg (click for Photo Album)
  • Comments: At 1:28, they come into Los Angeles and get stuck in rush hour traffic. Just after Raul Julia says of the Ferrari "the engine is getting too hot", a white 1200 coupe goes by. There is also a green coupe on the onramp. At 1:29 the fake cops run around the bright green 1200 coupe, you can make out the side emblems and GL style hubcaps. Bonus: several good shots of B210s, TE22 Celica and other vintage japanese steel, let alone a gizillion lead sleds.

icon5.gif Funny Lady movie info on IMDB

  • Comments: There's at least one 1200 in Funny Lady, a kelly green Coupe.

stars5.gif Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) movie info on IMDB

  • Comments: Here are the Datsun sightings:
  • At 38 minutes* for about one minute as Lyle Wagoneer's Ferrari gets stolen there is a like-new green 1200 coupe right behind the actors. A good view of the rear, but a bit of the side is also visible. You can see the what the original "bright" green looked like (this is not the dark green).
  • At 120 minutes (scene lasts about 4 minutes) the main character drives past the (12 story?) Nissan North America headquarters building before turning into the Torrance Mazda agency, through Butler Buick and into the Moran Cadillac dealership. There is a clear shot of the rear of a white 1200 coupe. There may be Datsun 1200 2-dr sedans and coupes visible along the street and maybe in the car lots, it's hard to say.
  • And though literally hundreds of other cars are damaged, as far as I can tell no Datsuns were harmed during the movie.

star.gif Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) movie info on IMDB

  • Comments: there's reportedly a mint orange 1200 Coupe in one of the scenes. I was able to get a glimpse of a red coupe (as they were driving to the psychiatrist) at about 0:25

stars4.gif The Junkman (1982) movie info on IMDB

  • 6537.jpeg (click for pic)
  • Comments: The "hero's" daughter is driving what looks like the bottom half of a 1200 coupe, with no guards, doors, bonnet or roof,it's the car they drive out of the LA river.

stars3.gif The Last Waltz (1978) movie info on IMDB

  • 7966.jpg (click for Photo Album)
  • Comments: In second scene (at 4:38), as concert-goers line up for the concert, there is a red 1200 Coupe as they turn the corner.

stars3.gif Up In Smoke movie info on IMDB
