History
Why Ratdat? It was the first screen name that came into my head when I was first online… a combination of the first three letters of my surname, and of course my passion for Datsuns :)
Ratdat.com was born on the 2nd May 2000. It was in the form of a blog, with regular posts about all things vintage Nissan-Datsun.
At first, Ratdat.com just redirected to his user page at members.sniffout.com/ratdatᴬᴿᶜᴴᴵⱽᴱ (January 2, 2000)
By September 2000 content came online at Ratdat.comᴬᴿᶜᴴᴵⱽᴱ (2000-2014).
In November 2000 it started to be mirrored at https://ratdat.wordpress.com (2000-2020 August)
In May 2014, Ratdat.com went down.
In late 2014 it became mirrored at Datsun-France.com, starting with Building Site☁

Burabuda☁/matbighat: RATDAT.COM is back up again after a long hiatus
Amazing he's still going at it since it was one of few Datsun websites back in the early days of the interwebs
Before forums, etc.

A goal in 2014 was higher resolution photos. Much like datsun1200.com, it started off with images appropriate for medium-resolution XVGA monitors and dial-up speeds:
back when Ratdat.com was first launched, a lot of folks were still viewing the web in an 800 x 600 resolution so a lot of the images used were quite small.
B140: Goodbye Old Friend
Back in January this year, the last Nissan 1400 Bakkie rolled off the production line at Rosslyn, South Africa, so ending one of the longest production runs for any Nissan.

1976 Datsun 120Y Bakkie (B120)
Yes, you read it right ...it's a 120Y not a 1200! This is a rare Datsun to find in the UK because they were never sold here ...or in Northern Europe for that matter. Like my 710 sedan, this little gem was destined for Africa. Kind of ironic, as that's where it originally came from! This truck was built in 1976 at Rosslyn assembly plant in south Africa and shipped by it's previous owner to the UK back in 1980. I assume it's badged as a 120Y due to it being sold alongside the B210 back in '76 rather than the B110. This is one rusty Datsun! Fortunately the bed is in good shape due to it having a canopy fitted from new but the front end was really bad. So far I have replaced all the metalwork from the firewall forward ...chassis an all! The roof has rusted away from the drip rails and there isn't much floor in the cab. I have now had the truck sand blasted all over and am slowly piecing the body back together at the moment.
