Some manual transmissions were fitted with an electrical Neutral Switch to signal when the gearbox is not in gear. All Automatic Transmissions are fitted with a an Inhibitor Switch which also signals when the automatic is in Neutral.

Overview

Neutral Switch was first used in 1973 USA models.

Neutral Switch was used for:

* EGR (some years e.g. 1990 1200, 1975 B210)
* Fuel Shut-Off System on B310
* Starter interlock on automatic cars
* Throttle Opener used the Inhibitor Switch to detect neutral
* TCVAS spark control used the Top Switch to detect neutral
