Some manual transmissions were fitted with an electrical Neutral Switch to signal when the gearbox is not in gear. All Automatic Transmissions are fitted with a an Inhibitor Switch which also signals when the automatic is in Neutral.

Neutral Switch was first used in 1973 USA models.
Neutral Switch was used for:
* EGR (some years e.g. 1990 1200, 1975 B210) * Fuel Shut-Off System on B310 * Starter interlock on automatic cars * Throttle Opener used the Inhibitor Switch to detect neutral * TCVAS spark control used the Top Switch to detect neutral
Neutral Switch is near top of 4-speed 56-Series Transmission
